Tropical Chevrolet Named Official Dealer of Redline Motorsports’ HTR Series and ZLR

Miami Shores, Florida—Tropical Chevrolet is expanding its new car line-up to include special high-performance Camaros and other Chevrolet vehicles through a new partnership with Redline Motorsports and its HTR Series. “We’ve always been involved in high-performance cars as Corvette is a popular line at our dealership,” comments Ari Wildstein of Tropical Chevrolet. He continues, “adding the HTR Series of Camaros and other high-performance Chevrolet vehicles will definitely enhance our offerings to customers locally and around the country.” Redline Motorsports is a high-performance specialty shop with a Performance Dealer Build Program that offers complete vehicle builds through a dealer network—including a warranty, excellent handling and road manners, and serialized build-plates to add collector value.

“We’ve been really successful in working with a local New York dealer for the last three years as it helped launch the HTR Series and Baldwin Performance continuation line of Camaros. But our move to Florida forced us to leave that family-owned dealership and find a new partner. Ari and the Tropical Chevrolet family are the perfect fit for our HTR line-up and I look forward to working with them,” explains Tanner. The HTR Series includes a mix of naturally aspirated and supercharged Camaros ,Corvettes and trucks from 525 hp combinations to an 850 hp supercharged supercar. In between those models are several layers of packages to fit a variety of customer desires in both supercharged and naturally aspirated engine combinations. This year the line-up will be headlined by the introduction of the HTR ZLR, a pumped up ZL1 that is designed to take the fight to the Mustang Shelby GT500, especially the tuned-up aftermarket Shelby Super Snake, and other fast tuner models from all automakers. The ZLR will bring 700hp to the streets in the base package, with an 800 hp 7.0L version late summer along with a significant appearance thanks to ZLR-spec carbon fiber body enhancements and unique wheel package. “We’re excited about the ZLR as it will have presence, significance, and carry a warranty through the dealership,” comments Tanner.

This week we are scheduled to be at PBIR to run the car through some baseline tests as well as a few initial mods with have done. The test is also being documented by GM High Tech Performance Magazine for an upcoming issue. Look for it in the next couple months!

RPI College is one of the leading engineering university’s in the country and is located in Troy, New York about 20 minutes from our facility. I was contacted by the group that is heading up the engine development side of the program to provide some assistance in the electronic management system. The powerplant is based off a 600cc 4 cylinder 4 stroke fuel injected motor that was out of a production motorcycle by Honda. Its using a stand alone engine management system and user adjustable. The great thing about working with this program is that all the calibrating experience we have working on V8 engines still applies to what they are working on. Granted the software and hardware may be different but once again theory and logic will prevail! Below is more info about the program.

About Formula SAE®

What is FSAE?
Formula SAE® is a student design competition organized by SAE International (formerly Society of Automotive Engineers). The first competition was started back in 1979 after Mark Marshek, then at University of Houston (Texas) contacted the SAE Educational Relations Department in 1978 to discuss adding a variant event of the Mini Baja; the name Mini Indy was founded. As many organizers have found, the work in building a car can be exceeded only by that to organize the event; 1980 failed to produce an organizer. Having seen the potential of the event, Mike Best, Robert Edwards and John Tellkamp, students at the University of Texas at Austin, approached Dr. Ron Matthews with an idea – how about another Mini-Indy, but with some changes? Make the rules more open; let it be as unlimited as possible. It was desired that this new competition would take the cars to the next level of engineering. The Baja competition was great for chassis design, but many students wanted to work on engines as well. The new rules would keep engine restrictions to a bare minimum. Any four-stroke engine was allowed for the first four years with power limited by a 25.4 mm intake restriction.

With grass roots support from his students, Dr. Ron Matthews contacted the SAE Educational Relations Department and set the wheels in motion. To differentiate this new event from the Mini-Indy, a new name was sought. To reflect better the road-racing nature of the event and its increased engineering content, the Formula SAE name was adopted.

The concept behind Formula SAE is that a fictional manufacturing company has contracted a design team to develop a small Formula-style race car. The prototype race car is to be evaluated for its potential as a production item. The target marketing group for the race car is the non-professional weekend autocross racer. Each student team designs, builds and tests a prototype based on a series of rules whose purpose is both to ensure onsite event operations and promote clever problem solving.

Formula SAE promotes careers and excellence in engineering as it encompasses all aspects of the automotive industry including research, design, manufacturing, testing, developing, marketing, management and finances. Formula SAE takes students out of the classroom and allows them to apply textbook theories to real work experiences.

Today, the competition has expanded and includes a number of spin off events. In the United States there are two locations: California and Michigan; Michigan being the largest event and longest running.

September 18th, 2011- 10 am to 2 pm – Redline Motorsports of Rotterdam, New York, has teamed up with the Saratoga Automobile Museum to promote and put together their 2^nd Annual Modern Day American Muscle Fuel Injection Car show. This show is geared for the 1994 and newer American vehicles that represent the modern day era of today’s performance scene. There will be many classes for Chevrolet, Ford, and Chrysler vehicles with top three trophies in each class. You will find modern day automotive vendors, music and food during the course of the show. Pre-Registration for the show is $20 and is a benefit show for the educational programming of the Museum. Registration fees include entry into the show as well as entry for one into the Museum. Additional Museum tickets may be purchased for $5.00.

The show is for 94 and up Domestic muscle cars and trucks. This includes the Corvettes, Camaro’s, Firebirds, Mustangs, GTO’s, Challengers, Chargers, Cadillac and anything else that meets the late model performance scene!

This year is shaping up to big a big event!

The car has been getting quite a bit of attention since the last SEMA show in Las Vegas and our recent trip to the Super Chevy Show in Palm Beach!

Well the  Palm Beach Florida road trip is just about completed for the 30th anniversary of Super Chevy and the Barrett Jackson Show. Both shows were in the  Palm Beach area and we did quite a bit of running to say the least! Redline Motorsports would like to thank Adrian from Toyo Tire for allowing us  to display both the new 2011  Motion Phase 3 Super Car as well as the “mule” car, the 2011 HTR-850R Camaro! We met up with Dr. Jamie Meyers (GMPP) at the Barrett Jackson show this weekend as our HTR-454 Camaro was on display at there booth. This was the front cover car for the 2011 GM Performance Parts Catalog!

 Here I am handing the keys over to Joel Rosen for his Synergy Green MOTION Phase 3 427 SuperCar! This is build # 001 of the program.

Joel and I are discussing some future modifications for another model!
